The Uzbek government has confirmed the death of President Islam Karimov, six days after he was taken to hospital with a suspected brain haemorrhage.
One of Asia`s most authoritarian leaders, Mr Karimov, 78, died after 27 years in power, BBC writes.
Mr Karimov has no clear successor. There is no legal political opposition and the media are tightly controlled.
He will be buried on Saturday in his home city of Samarkand and three days of mourning will be observed.
A UN report has described the use of torture under Mr Karimov as "systematic".
The late leader often justified his strong-arm tactics by highlighting the danger from Islamist militancy in the mainly Muslim country, which borders Afghanistan.
News of Mr Karimov`s death was finally confirmed after several foreign leaders and diplomatic sources reported it on Friday.
"Dear compatriots, it is with an immense pain in our hearts that we inform you of the death of our dear president," a state TV presenter was quoted as saying by AFP news agency.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has extended his deep condolences to the government and people of the Republic of Uzbekistan over the death of President Islam Karimov, AzerTac reports.
Islam Karimov, ruling Uzbekistan since 1989, died at the age of 78.

In the age of terror there are Muslim countries that can be helpful and Azerbaijan is one of such countries, said an article published by The American Spectator.
Trend reports that according to the article, instead of focusing on enemies, the US should emphasize true Muslim allies — those who have shown effort to truly integrate Western values into the fabric of daily life.
“To do so, perhaps we should shift our focus away from the Middle East and toward Eurasia,” the article said. “In this region, there are numerous Muslim-majority nations, many of which are emerging democracies, secular, modern and, pointedly, willing to help.”
“There are Muslim-majority nations who consider women’s rights as essential to the balance of their country,” the article said. “The West should promote and support such countries. Azerbaijan, which is the Muslim ally of the US, Albania and Kazakhstan can be cited as examples.”
According to the article, the Azerbaijani constitution clearly defines the country as a “democratic, legal, secular and unitary republic.”
“Although Azerbaijan has been criticized, it has far surpassed most other ex-Soviet republics on human rights,” the article said. “Azerbaijan provides people of all faiths the choice to practice their religion without restriction. Jews, Muslims and Christians live together absent the strife of the Middle East and other regions of the world.”
According to the article, unlike in the majority of Muslim-majority countries, barely any Muslims in Azerbaijan say Sunni-Shia tensions are a pressing issue in their country, according to a 2013 Pew Research survey.
“In addition, Azerbaijan has a zero-tolerance for religious extremists,” the article said. “The government has established the Caucasus Muslim Board (CMB) which is closely involved in the monitoring of potential “Islamic State” (IS, ISIL, ISIS or Daesh) recruits, facilitating early detection of radicalization.”
“The State Committee registers all religious organizations and has worked to eliminate judicial loopholes to finance terrorism, such as money laundering and illicit donations,” the article said. “It also monitors religious literature, which has been found to be one of the main sources of radicalization.”
According to the article, Azerbaijani-Iranian relations could boost regional trade and economic development, reducing the prospects for ethnic, religious or even regional conflicts and becoming a powerful tool for improved EU-Iranian and U.S.-Iranian ties.

Shaki to host International Theater Festival

The Second “Uch mekan” International Theater Festival will be held in Shaki from September 15-24.
The festival is co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Shaki City Executive Authority and the Union of Theater Figures, AzerTag reports.
The festival will see participation of theatre troupes from Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Iran, Ukraine and the UAE.
Azerbaijan will be represented at the event by the State Academic Drama Theatre, State Russian Drama Theatre, State Puppet Theatre, Shaki State Drama Theatre and Ganja State Drama Theatre.

AZAL announces recruitment of female flight attendants

CJSC Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) announces admission of documents from females for a flight attendant position.
The documents will be received from 10:00 to 12:00 (GMT+4 hours), from September 1 to October 1, according to Trend.
The candidates will be selected by a competition.
The competition is open only to good looking girls aged 18-30, with height not less than 165 cm and not more than 180 cm. Those willing to apply must be fluent in Azerbaijani, Russian, English or other foreign languages.
To participate in the competition, original and copy of the following documents are required:
- Identity card;
- Photo (3x4 cm);
- Passport;
- Diploma, medical certificate and certificate of foreign languages (if any).
All documents must be submitted to the Head Department of Human Resources of CJSC Azerbaijani Airlines at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Telephone: 497-26-00 (ext. 24-04; 32-81; 20-74).
